Situated on the South Island of New Zealand, Te Anau is a picturesque town on the eastern shore of Lake Te Anau. The lake, which is the largest on the island and the second largest in the country, makes it the ideal place to take a break with its stunning backdrop and mesmerising views.
Alongside the beauty of the lake, Te Anau is a popular tourist destination as it is commonly cited as the Walking Capital of the World. With three of New Zealand’s Nine Great Walks all taking place in, through and around the town, Te Anau is a hiker’s paradise. These three walks include the Routeburn Track, the Milford Track and the increasingly popular Kepler Track. The Kepler Challenge brings the crowds to Te Anau when it takes place in December.
Furthermore, Te Anau is a great base to begin exploring the famous nearby fiords of Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound.
