You’veheard about Fiordland and seen its stunning beauty in pictures.
So, naturally you havedecided you really need to experience it for yourself (great decision by the way 😉), but what is the best way to get here?
Maybe you have booked flights to Queenstown, or you are on a roadie around the South Island by car or motorhome. Let us Fiordland experts give you some travel tips on getting to our place.
This is the most popular option and the one we recommend.
Rent a car from the airport and drive to Te Anau. Queenstown and Invercargill airport have a variety of different rental car companies operating from the main terminal which makes it easy to organize a ride that will fit your needs. From a more cost effective, smaller vehicle to luxury people movers, they can cater for couples or groups. If you find yourself travelling over a busy long weekend or holiday period, I recommend booking a vehicle in advance. I’ve been caught out before and ended up with one of the last vehicles available which was 3x over my price limit! It was a very comfortable drive but completely unnecessary! When you make the decision to drive, please take your time and be careful. The roads down here may be different to what you are used to and we want you and your family to arrive with us safe and sound.
Te Anau is 2 hours drive from Queenstown and Invercargill.
If driving isn’t your thing and you need a cheaper alternative there are a few different options for public transport.
Intercity runs multiple pickups from Queenstown airport with a central drop off in Te Anau. From here, you are more than likely able to set off on foot to your accommodation. Aww the beauty of being in Te Anau, we can get most places in town by walking!
There is a local taxi company who can pick you up from the bus stop called Te Anau Transfers.
Tracknet is a great local company, operating in the area for over 30 years. They’re able to transport people around Fiordland/Southland and conveniently picks up from Queenstown and Invercargill. Tracknet also connects with Southlands great walks so if you’re heading our way with boots and packs in tow, their services may be an ideal option for you.
Getaway Te Anau are more than happy to help with your bookings. We even have some discounts available. Get in touch with our friendly team to help organise your travel to and from Te Anau.
Whichever way you decide to get to our beautiful piece of paradise we look forward to having you and know our southern hospitality and stunning vistas will blow you away!Back to Local Insights Page
